Stern vs American Idol
Howard Stern, the self-proclaimed, “King of All Media” has encouraged his fans to vote for Sanjaya Malakar since the general consensus is that Sanjaya is the worst singer currently on the show. Stern has repeatedly told his listeners to go to Vote for the Worst.com and also to call in to vote for Sanjaya.
So now that Sanjaya has avoided the boot and made it into the top nine, Stern is crowing. He told his listeners, “We’re corrupting the entire thing. All of us are routing American Idol. It’s so great. The No. 1 show in television and it’s getting ruined.”
Okay. Let’s look at the facts: 1] American Idol is still the top rated show on television. 2] American Idol’s ratings are up! [More viewers means more earnings — just the opposite of what Stern is trying to achieve] 3] Vote for the Worst.com doesn’t get anywhere near the number of hits it would take to keep Sanjaya on — and that’s even counting the bump in votes brought in by Stern’s listeners.
It’s interesting that Stern is actually helping American Idol by claiming he will be behind it’s downfall. Perhaps it’s even more interesting that Stern’s getting publicity while at the same time failing at his mission. I guess that’s why he’s the King of All Media.
1: American Idol is still the top rated show:
1: YES AND STERN IS HELPING THAT BECAUSE OF HIS AGENDA. HE IS AWARE OF THAT.
2: Amerian Idol’s ratings are up!
2: SURE. YOU NOTED THAT IN YOUR #1 POINT. STERN IS NOT WORRIED ABOUT RATINGS. IF ‘SANJAYA’ DOES WIN, SIMON HAS SAID HE WILL LEAVE THE SHOW. WITHOUT SIMON, THE SHOW ISN’T ANY GOOD. SIMON IS THE REAL VOICE OF THE PROGRAM
3: Vote for the Worst.com, etc,
3: EVERY BIT HELPS.
STERN IS HELPING TO SHOW THAT THIS TYPE OF ‘REALITY SHOW’ CAN BE MANIPULATED AND HE’S DOING IT WELL. HE’S GOT HIS HORSE IN THE TOP 10, WITHOUT HIS EFFORTS, ‘SANJAYA’ WOULD HAVE NEVER REACHED THAT POINT IN THE “CONTEST” YOU CAN AT LEAST SEE THAT.
FAILING? NO, IF ANYTHING MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER WATCHED THE SHOW NOW DO; AS YOU’VE NOTED BY THE SPIKE IN RATINGS, BUT HE’S ALSO PUT ‘SANJAYA’S’ NUMBER ON HIS SITE TO CALL AND VOTE, JUST IN CASE YOU DON’T WANT TO WATCH.
I’D HAVE TO SAY WITH THE PEOPLE LEFT AND THE GROWING ‘SANJAYA’ CROWD, HE’S GOT AS GOOD A SHOT AS ANYONE.
OH, AND WHEN YOU ACTUALLY ‘LISTEN’ TO THE SHOW, THEN YOU WILL BE BETTER ABLE TO SEE THE WHOLE ARENA OF WHAT’S GOING ON.
BUT ‘SIRIUS’ IS A ‘PAY FOR’ SUBSCRIPTION. ONE I THINK YOU DO NOT HAVE…
…SIR! 😉
The bottom line is Stern and his audience don’t have enough influence to do what he claims.
How about this, Mr. Beatty, uh, Mr. Anonymous, how about we make a little wager…
If Sanjaya lasts until the finale [and I’m not even saying he has to win, just make it to the finale] then you win but if he gets booted off before, then I win.
If you win then I will buy a subscription to Sirus radio. If I win, then you have to buy a new CAPS LOCK KEY.
