Babylon AD Director Unhappy
If you’ve been around the ZONE in the last day or so, you know that I planned to check out “Babylon A.D.” this weekend when it premiered. I wasn’t going in with high expectations, just the hope that I’d have an enjoyable couple of hours. Now I’m not so sure.That’s Mathieu Kassovitz, “Babylon A.D.” director in the photo with Vin Diesel above. Kassovitz says he’s very unhappy with the film and that he “never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way [he] wanted it to be.” He’s especially upset that the film has been cut down to 93 minutes instead of the 108 he was hoping for. Kassovitz doesn’t call the film a total waste — “I like the energy of it and I got some scenes I’m happy with,” he says. “But I know what I had — I had something much better in my hands but I just wasn’t allowed to work.”
I still may still go see “Babylon A.D.” this weekend… but with even lowered expectations. Anyone want to bet that a “director’s cut” dvd will be released at some point?
the previews for Babylon AD made me expect something a lot more original… it totally felt like a cross between Minority Report and the Fifth Element
It seems that Babylon AD is yet another product of the studio system getting the final say of the theatrical cut. I wasn’t that crazy about seeing this to begin with but for it to be cut down against the wishes of the director is uncalled for.

i enjoyed the movie babylon ad a lot was NOT VINS BEST, BUT GOOD TO see him back in action.

Yeah,looks like another waste of talent(Diesel)I will always remember him in Pitch Black,he looked mean as hell but now it just seems he can’t land a big movie,I heard at one point he asked the director if he was even going to be in the movie(referring to babylon a.d.)I think it’s crap when a studio edites out parts from a film to suit “their”vision of what a “good”film should be,if it’s made to be in the film,leave it.I can’t count how many “special edition” or “extended edition” dvd’s I’ve seen and sat there thinkng”why did’nt they leave that in,that makes so much more sense”You know,things that give the story or charecters more depth and purpose.
