“Better Call Saul” Music Video

I’m looking forward to Better Call Saul  the spin-off from Breaking Bad.  According to the AMC site….

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

“Hey, Hey, We’re The Monkees!”

I was seven years old when The Monkees  tv series premiered on September 12, 1966.  I became an instant and life-long Monkees fan.  I wasn’t alone.

The Monkees tv series won two Emmys (one for Outstanding Comedy Series – beating The Andy Griffith Show,  Bewitched,  Get Smart, and Hogan’s Heroes).  In 1967, The Monkees had four albums hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (the only group to ever do that) and they outsold the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined.

Obviously there were (and still are) quite a few Monkees‘ fans out there.  If you’re one, you’ll want to check out Eddie Deezen‘s post  Hey, Hey, We’re the Monkees  at Neatorama.

Original “Star Trek” in Cinerama

Star Trek,  the original series, is a favorite of  many of my regular readers.  Click on this link to see the photo above in all of it’s widescreen glory.

So I wonder how many of you have ever seen Star Trek  in Cinerama widescreen like in the photo above?

Admittedly, that’s a trick question since Star Trek  was never filmed in Cinerama.  That photo above sure looks like Cinerama though thanks to the dedicated work of Nick Acosta.  Click over to Nick’s site and see more widescreen Star Trek  photos and learn how he did it.

Well done, Mr. Acosta.  Well, done, sir.

The TV Shows That Premiered 50 Years Ago!

Recently The ’60s at 50 posted the September ’64 Television Debuts.   I was surprised that 50 years had passed but so many of the shows that premiered that season are still not only known, but are being regularly watched on retro channels.

The Shows and my thoughts…

‘Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea’ – I occasionally watched, but often found the concept cooler than than the execution.
‘Peyton Place’ –  Never watched it.
‘Shindig!’ – Occasionally watched but preferred Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.
‘Bewitched’ – Used to tune in regularly.
‘Jonny Quest’ – Loved that show.  An all-time favorite cartoon.
‘The Addams Family’ – I watched but not regularly.  I was more a fan of  The Munsters.
’12 O’Clock High” – Never really watched it.
‘Flipper’ – As a kid I was a regular viewer.

‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ – I watched as often as I could.
‘The Munsters’ – I was a pretty regular viewer.
‘Daniel Boone’ – One of my favorite shows as a kid!
‘Gomer Pyle – USMC’ – We’d watch regularly.
‘Gilligan’s Island’ – We’d watch weekly.
‘My Living Doll’ – I don’t remember it, but with Julie Newmar co-starring, I’d be interested in giving it a look.
It would be interesting to see how other seasons held up after 50 years.  Nice one, The ’60s at 50.

Z-Nation: “This is an Extinction-Scale Event…”

“This is an extinction-scale event.  The president is dead.”

Those are the first two sentences you hear in the trailer to Z Nation  which premieres in September on the SyFy Channel.

While it’s true that I’m skeptical of anything brought to us from the folks behind Sharknado, the trailer does look promising.  Let me warn you before you watch the Z Nation  trailer below, there is typical zombie movie gore.  So give the trailer a view and let me know your thoughts.

“Longmire” Poster, TV Series & Novels

I really like this poster for Longmire created by Thinkinb4Talkin.

Longmire is one of my favorite shows currently running.  I also think it is the most under-rated and the only one to continue to get better and better with each season.  If you have been watching then you know what I mean.  If you somehow missed this gem, then please give it a go.

If you’re interested, here’s a link to the first four Longmire novels by Craig Johnson.  I haven’t read all of them, but the ones I have read are excellent and they are what got me interested in the tv series.
