The Rock Goes Faster

If you’ve been wondering when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would come back to the action genre… then wonder no more. Check out The Rock in Faster. (Doesn’t that sound like Clint Eastwood at the end of the trailer?)

If you’re a fan of Eric Powell’s The Goon (or even if you’re not) you’ll want to check out this trailer of what we can expect when a big screen adaptation hits. And keep in mind that when The Goon hits, he hits HARD.

I met James Mason a few years ago at an OrlandoCon. I knew right away I’d want to get a piece from him for my Stallone art collection. James worked up this take on Sly as Jack Carter. Recently James held a contest on his site and I was one of the lucky winners. My prize — James colored the piece you see posted today.
Big thanks to James!!

Three years ago it was announced that Johnny Depp had signed on to play Barnabus Collins in a big screen adaptation of the 60’s cult hit tv show, Dark Shadows. I’m happy to report that things are looking good for a January 2011 filming start with Tim Burton at the helm.

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been yapping about Red, the Warren Ellis / Cully Hamner mini-series, for over six years. Perhaps it’s even harder to believe that it’s been turned into a movie starring Bruce WIllis and Morgan Freeman that will premiere on October 16th. Perhaps by then you’ll have seen The Expendables enough times to give Red a try.

Chris DiBari provides this week’s Stallone piece. It’s Chris’ take on Sly as Deke DaSilva in Nighthawks. (Excellent choice and an excellent job!) I met Chris, who is also a big Stallone fan, at Heroes Con this year. This was my first piece by Chris, but hopefully won’t be my last.

Sly takes us behind the scenes on The Expendables in the first of five weekly videos. Check back weekly to see more behind the scenes action!

Ask and ye shall receive: Michelle Rodriguez in her character poster for Machete thanks to the good folks at IMPAwards.com. You can also see larger versions of the character posters for Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert DeNiro and more at the IMPAwards site.

Let’s follow up last night’s Machete post with this Steven Seagal character poster. All I can say is, “Where is Michelle Rodriguez’s character poster? You can see Don Johnson’s character poster as well as a larger version of the Seagal poster here at IMPAwards.com.

I’m pretty sure that I’d go see Danny Trejo as Machete even if Michelle Rodriguez wasn’t in the movie.

Alex Owens did the cool Rambo piece above. I discovered Alex’s art through his Deviant Art site. I commissioned this and a few other pieces last year.

I know that many ZONErs are fans of movies, comic books, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Conan the Barbarian. So I just had to link to a video short called Conan the Barbarian: The Musical.
Thanks to Miss Cellania for the link.

Jay Potts, the creator of the very hip blaxplotation web comic World of Hurt, worked up a Jack Carter sketch for me. Yeah, he definitely caught the tough guy image that Jack Carter projected!
Before you click over to Jay’s web comic, be advised that World of Hurt is suggested for MATURE READERS due to violence, profanity and a bunch of other stuff that can be found in the best blaxplotation movies.

It’s hard to believe that HEROES CON 2010 was three weeks ago. Usually within the week following HEROES, I post my con report and photos. Of course, most years, the con is held later in the year and so when I return home I still have at least a week of vacation left. This year HEROES was held earlier in the month and I didn’t have the luxury of vacation when I returned home.
Enough with the excuses. In an effort to get my con report and photos up before next year’s HEROES CON, I will post three pictures a day along with some comments.

That’s Chris DiBari. He’s worked on some pretty neat comics including adaptations of The Warriors and The Crazies (especially cool since Chris is a big movie buff). Currently Chris is working on the very well received western comic Pale Horse. Chris is also a Stallone fan and he did a cool take on Sly from Nighthawks which I will post in the near future.

That’s Jay Potts, the creator of the very hip blaxplotation web comic World of Hurt. As you can see from the photo above, Jay rocked a Jack Carter sketch for me. I’ll post a scan soon.
