Eric Beetner Talks All the Way Down and More!

Eric Beetner’s new novel, All the Way Down, comes out tomorrow.  I pre-ordered it and can’t wait.  Beetner has never disappointed me and All the Way Down sounds like a cross between Game of Death, Die Hard and The Raid: Redemption.  Here’s the Amazon description:

Dale is a crooked cop. It started slow, but grew like a cancer and now he can’t get out from under the thumb of Tat, a would-be kingpin in every vice he can turn a profit with.

And now Dale’s number is up – the top brass knows. But instead of getting busted, Dale gets an offer. The mayor’s daughter is being held by Tat in his fortress built from an abandoned office tower. They want her back but if they storm the gates, Lauren is as good as dead. So they’re sending Dale on what could very likely be a suicide mission: infiltrate Tat’s fortress and bring her out alive.

If the Mayor even really wants her alive…

Floor by floor Dale and Lauren have to fight off an increasingly difficult and dangerous set of obstacles.

Meanwhile, Dale’s wife has her own troubles and some of the drug kingpin’s goons are only adding to an already rough day.

The clock is ticking down along with the floors of the building and escape is looking less and less likely. But to save her, and to save himself, he must make it all the way down.

Beetner recently was interviewed by P. J. Bodnar at the Big Thrill.  Beetner spoke about All the Way Down, writing advice, his next novel and more.

Oh, and if All the Way Down sounds like something you’d like then you can be dealt in by clicking on this link and ordering from Amazon.

John Wick & Jack Carter Get a Tune (Tone) Up by John Beatty

Regular readers probably remember seeing the John Wick & Jack Carter piece that John Beatty created and gifted to me back in November.   After he was finished John decided it would look better with a gray wash and created / added to the piece as you can see above.  You can see it even better and bigger if you click on the image.

I’ve attached the U-Stream of John adding the tones below.  You can check out all of John’s live drawing recordings here.

Project Blue Book Trailers are Here!

History Channel’s Project Blue Book looks like something that many of us are going to enjoy.  Here’s the synopsis…

HISTORY’s upcoming new drama series ‘Project Blue Book’ is based on the true, top-secret investigations into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1969.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Aidan Gillen), a brilliant yet underappreciated college professor, is recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead a clandestine operation called Project Blue Book. Along with his partner, the debonair Air Force Captain Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey), he is summoned to investigate UFO sightings around the country and use science to discover what really happened. However, when some encounters cannot be explained away and cases remain open, Hynek begins to suspect that he has been duped by the government into a larger conspiracy to cover up the truth. Set against the backdrop of the Cold War and rising Atomic Era, each episode will draw from the actual Project Blue Book case files, blending UFO theories with authentic historical events from one of the most mysterious eras in United States history.

Here are three trailers to give you a bit of a taste…

10+ Page Preview for Criminal by Brubaker and Phillips

The art above is just one of a ten page preview for the new Criminal comic series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.  The series will be on-going and feature new and returning characters from previous Criminal stories.  The first issue is self-contained and the second and third issues will start and wrap-up a two-part story.  I cannot recommend Brubaker and Phillips’ Criminal stories highly enough.

If you click over you can see the other nine pages of the first issue preview as well as the Criminal covers for issues one, two and three.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) / Z-View

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Director:  Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman

Screenplay: Phil Lord & Rodney Rothman from a story by Phil Lord

Stars: Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Zoë Kravitz, Nicholas Cage, Liev Schreiber and Chris Pine.

The Pitch: “Let’s make an amazing animated Spider-Man movie featuring all of the various versions of Spidey!”

Tagline: Enter a universe where more than one wears the mask.

The Overview: Beware of Spoilers…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a beautifully animated movie that is a joy to watch and a love letter to comic books.  That’s because Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is unlike any other animated movie ever.  It actually looks like a comic book come to life right down to the zip-a-tone dot patterns, captions and sound effects come to life.

The story involves young Miles Morales bitten by a radioactive spider and empowered with, you guessed it, spider-like powers.  Miles finds himself the heir to Spider-Man when Peter Parker is killed trying to stop Wilson The Kingpin Fisk from opening up a portal to other dimensions.  Miles has no idea how to use his new powers or to stop Fisk.  Fortunately, when the portal opened alternate universe versions of Spider-Man came through.  These versions of Spider-Man team with Miles to try to stop Fisk and get back to their rightful dimensions before they disintegrate.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has well-developed characters, humor and suspense.  It’s beautiful to watch and a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
